Specialist flooring does not have to be expensive.
For this Sanctuary Housing Care Flat in Glasgow, carpet was unsuitable so we installed
an R10 rated slip-resistant cushioned vinyl.
The cushioned backing provided a softer floor surface and acted as a liner on the poor chipboard subfloor eliminating the need for plywood.
Although the seams cannot be heat welded like a contract vinyl it is available in 3 and 4 metre widths meaning that seams can be eliminated from the rooms and only occur at the door thresholds.
The end result is a relatively cheap, durable slip-resistant floor which is attractive and comfortable to walk on.
The floor pictured was overlined with sheet plywood before the vinyl was laid resulting in a smooth flat appearance. Basically the floorcovering will only ever be as good as the floor it is laid on top of.
Good preparation is everything.
